June – July we will focus on “the spirit of competition.” By definition to compete means to “strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same.” This definition can also be inwardly directed as you are in competition with yourself.
During this training cycle we will take on WODs from past and current CrossFit sanctioned and unsanctioned events. During this time it would be beneficial for you to ask questions especially if you are looking to compete during the summer months.
How do you pace? What is pacing? When do you turn it up? How do you manage the clock? What conversations are you having with yourself? Are these conversations negative or positive?
Throughout this journey we will tackle these questions and more.
But going forward the warm-up and cool down will remain the same. We will continue to utilize the kettlebell to work on the basics of hinging and catching the bell.
[Aside] I’ve noticed that attendance at Gymnastics class has been thinning out. As a reminder, Gymnastics classes are held every Tues and Thurs at 8AM and 6PM. Please do not get the idea that WOD class and Gymnastics class are one and the same. They aren’t even close. So if you’ve been skipping class because you think this way, you are doing yourself a disservice. There is a distinguishable difference between those athletes who have been consistent (even those who have been partially consistent) and those who don’t partake in the gymnastics classes at all. It’s like night and day. For those of you who have stopped showing up—for whatever reason—I encourage you to pull yourselves up by your bootstraps and get back into the swing of things. And for those of you still on the other side of the fence, hop over it, or walk around, and come and join us.
